11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities
Innovation for creating sustainable cities and communities is essential to responses to the pressing challenges created by highly populated living environments, such as those created by insufficient access to infrastructure, energy, sanitation, water, and food, waste going to landfills, poor air quality, congestion and traffic, etc.
As noted by tine inno4sd Guideline of Local Innovation for Policy Action, cities and local communities are to some extent responsible for these problems and should also be part of their solution. This is because if the manifestations of sustainability challenges are very different across regions, local administrations worldwide share similar responsibilities in terms of local governance.
In this module you find examples of reports, cases, videos and other
materials that illustrate the contribution of innovation for SDG11 Sustainable Cities and Communities. Click on the relevant section to find out more.
The i4SDG knowledge repository is a tool open for everybody. You can contribute with materials (specialised or general publications, videos, tools and case studies). Please contact sdgs@inno4sd.net for further information about eligibility and information required, prior to submission.
